Coincidentally, when Tony brought this up I was just about to finally
throw out hard copy of the final CRP reports, along with other NC and
NEC material. While I we could compare notes, I've a strong memory
of our already doing so before you shut down your node.

Far as I recall, the remaining money belonged to people who either
had made no effort to claim their refund, or who left without leaving
us any way to contact them. Meanwhile, for all this time it has still
been possible for them to easily contact Net249. ...Basically, this
money has been "abandoned".

I think I'm guilty of originally suggesting the party idea. While it
may seem a little frivolous, it's better than just leaving the money
sitting in the bank forever...

Meanwhile, these days our mail hubs are picking up mail over the
Internet and the hub operators would all apparently subscribe to
high-speed access anyway, so there is no additional financial cost to
the hub operator. I mention this to point out that there is no useful
way to spend the money to benefit net249.

That's another option, tho most of the people we could easily contact
already have their appropriate refunds. Still, I suppose it might be
at least as easy as trying to coordinate the "party schedules" of
people living in Trenton, Ottawa, Kingston and surrounding areas...

K> AH the days of net249 brings back some nostalgic feelings

Ah yes, BBS nostalgia! 'Tis one of our Users249 mainstays these days.

Thanks for the information, and thanks to whoever forwarded the
message for saving me from bothering you at a RASC meeting, especially
since I made a personal resolution to avoid mentioning FidoNet to
former net249 members who happen to belong to RASC.

Meanwhile, as I head off on one of my patented conversational
tangents...

I really wonder if I'm being appropriate in calling the Kingston
Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada a "local astronomy
club". ;-)

Not to worry Stephen, as a pack rat myself, I still have all the old fidonet
paperwork sitting here, waiting for the instructions to do something, or the
fireban to be lifted so we can roast some marshmallows.

There is nothing wrong with a party. We could pick a time place and date
and have food drink and be Merry.....or who ever we wish to be that night.

You know we were out at the Vancouver GA, and ran into Hugh Gregory, who
runs SpaceBase BBS, and who gated the astronomy echoes. Nice fellow. In
fact he is coming to TO apparently to the Science Centre to give a talk,
since he is really into Sci-Fi, maybe we could swing him down this way.

Not a problem Stephen, I miss the fido days, it felt like a family unit : )

Certainly, you just have to hang out with the right group in the club : )

Re: Re: free the source...
Hi There Ex- Fido net users
Yes, I am still around, and was posted to the note on the CRP left for
the
net249.
To be exact, there is at this moment roughly $402.70 in the account. We
get
02 cents intrest per month, and .95 cents service charge.
So why dont you apply for a node number again Kim? We can use more members
in
the net. We are growing again. Some old members coming back, and a few
new
ones. Just installing another one right now.
