Hi Tony,
There may have been a third thing wrong; I may have seemed to imply
that I would rely fairly quickly. 'Course no one who knows me would
expect a fast reply...<grin>
S> you admitted to using software that will only cause you problems :)
"My name is Steve, and I am a Windows user." <laugh> ...Still, at
least I know that this is a Bad Thing. My next worry is that I will
be seduced by the "instant gratification" of high-speed Internet
access. After all, can one really appreciate something, if it does
not take hours to download?
S> you made a star wars reference. at least jar-jar will be happy
No, no, no! That was a witty "Star Bores" joke, as indicated by my
using the word "farce" instead of "force". That is my story and I'm
sticking with it, thank you very much. <g>
I guess a lot of fans were eagerly waiting for the release of "The
Sith Hits the Fan" or whatever it was called. In other discussion
areas, I even saw off-topic messages from people who were planning to
go and see it on opening night in a theatre. Strangely, there then
followed a resounding silence from those people.
So, how bad was it? Also, will anyone here admit to having seen it?
Just so that I do not seem like a total hypocrite, I'll mention that I
enjoyed the first three "Star Wars" movies. I fourth did not do much
for me, but the fifth seemed slightly better. I'll also confess that
I'll probably buy "Revenge of the Sith" when it is released on DVD, if
only because of morbid curiosity.
S> as for firing up linux to run the software, consider installing cygwin
on
S> the windows machine. software should compile and run ok on it...
I think I've tracked down a current Windows port I needed for part of
the gateway package, but my Binkley Protocol "FidoNet via Internet"
mailer objected to my upgrading from Win98 to Win2000 and I just
started using the Linux version as the path of least resistance. So,
for that case, it would probably be easier to try troubleshooting the
native Windows application. <shudder>
Some of the apps I run under Linux, like the SLRN UseNet newsreader,
already have Windows ports but they have problems because of Windows'
limitations. Still, I'll keep that in mind for any Linux apps that
might function well under Windows. Thanks.

"Junior, quit playing with your floppy!"
quickly gloss over the fact that lately I mainly seem to run Windows,
indicating that I have been corrupted by the Dark Side of the Farce.
